Story / Plot

The story begins immediately after the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home. Mysterio has revealed Spider-Man’s secret identity to the world, and Peter Parker is now publicly known as Spider-Man.

Peter, MJ and Ned are suddenly surrounded by media attention. Peter’s life becomes even more complicated when his friends struggle to get into MIT because of their association with him. Wanting to fix the situation, Peter asks Doctor Strange for help.

Doctor Strange agrees to cast a spell that will make everyone forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. However, Peter repeatedly changes the spell because he wants certain people, including MJ and Ned, to remember him. The spell becomes unstable and breaks open the multiverse.

Peter soon discovers that several villains from other universes have entered his world. These include Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Sandman and the Lizard.

Doctor Strange wants to send the villains back to their universes, but Peter learns that they are being sent back to moments where some of them are destined to die. Peter believes they should be given a chance to change their fate instead.

Peter takes the villains to Happy Hogan’s apartment and attempts to cure them. Doctor Octopus is successfully cured of the influence of his mechanical arms, but Green Goblin takes control of the situation and attacks Peter.

During the battle, Aunt May is fatally injured by Green Goblin. Before she dies, she reminds Peter of the responsibility that comes with having great power.

Peter becomes determined to stop the villains without simply sending them back to die. Meanwhile, Ned discovers that he can open portals using Doctor Strange’s sling ring.

Ned and MJ search for Peter and accidentally encounter two other versions of Spider-Man: the Peter Parker from Andrew Garfield’s universe and the Peter Parker from Tobey Maguire’s universe.

The three Spider-Men eventually work together to cure the remaining villains. They develop cures for Electro, Lizard and Sandman and prepare for the final confrontation.

During the battle at the Statue of Liberty, the three Spider-Men fight the villains together. Peter’s version of Green Goblin becomes the final and most dangerous opponent.

After the villains are cured, the multiverse begins collapsing into Peter’s world. Doctor Strange explains that the only way to stop the collapse is to make everyone forget Peter Parker completely.

Peter accepts the sacrifice. Doctor Strange casts the final spell, causing everyone in Peter’s universe to forget who Peter Parker is.

Ending Explained

Why does everyone forget Peter Parker?

The original spell was intended to make people forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. However, Peter’s repeated changes to the spell caused the multiverse to break open.

At the end, the only way to repair the damage is for Doctor Strange to make everyone forget Peter Parker himself.

This means MJ, Ned, Happy and everyone else lose their memories of Peter.

What happens to the three Spider-Men?

After the villains are cured, the Spider-Men from the other universes return home. Peter says goodbye to Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker and Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker before Doctor Strange closes the multiverse portals.

Does Aunt May die?

Yes. Aunt May is fatally injured by Green Goblin after attempting to help Peter and the villains. Her final conversation with Peter reinforces the movie’s central idea about responsibility.

What happens to MJ and Ned?

After the final spell, MJ and Ned no longer remember Peter Parker. Peter visits them at the coffee shop where MJ works but decides not to reveal his identity because he sees that they are happy and safe.

Peter ultimately chooses to protect them rather than restore their memories.

What happens to Peter Parker?

Peter is completely alone after everyone forgets him. He moves into a small apartment and creates a new Spider-Man suit for himself.

He continues protecting New York as Spider-Man, but now he has no personal relationships connecting his superhero life to his civilian identity.

Why doesn’t Peter tell MJ who he is?

Peter initially plans to tell MJ and Ned who he is, but when he sees that MJ is happy and has a future ahead of her, he decides not to interfere. He accepts the personal cost of the spell to keep them safe.

Does Doctor Strange remember Peter Parker?

No. The final spell makes everyone forget Peter Parker. Doctor Strange also no longer remembers him.
