Story / Plot
After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Peter Parker is still dealing with the loss of Tony Stark. Wanting to take a break from his responsibilities as Spider-Man, Peter joins his classmates on a school trip to Europe.
Peter hopes to spend time with his friends, especially MJ, but his plans change when Nick Fury contacts him. Strange elemental creatures begin appearing in different parts of Europe, causing massive destruction. Fury asks Peter to help deal with the threat.
Peter meets Quentin Beck, a mysterious superhero who claims to come from another universe. Beck appears to be fighting the Elementals and quickly earns Peter’s trust. Peter eventually receives a pair of advanced glasses called E.D.I.T.H. from Tony Stark, giving him access to Stark’s satellite network and a huge collection of weapons and drones.
However, Peter eventually discovers that Mysterio is not the hero he claims to be. Quentin Beck is actually a former Stark Industries employee who has assembled a team of former employees and special-effects experts. They use advanced technology, drones and holographic illusions to create the Elementals and make Beck appear to be a powerful superhero.
Beck wants to become the next great superhero after the death of Tony Stark. His plan becomes increasingly dangerous when he uses E.D.I.T.H. to create an enormous illusion in London and attempts to eliminate anyone who could expose his secret.
Peter realizes the truth and fights back. Using his enhanced spider-sense and his connection to Tony’s legacy, he eventually defeats Beck and regains control of E.D.I.T.H.
Ending Explained
What happens to Mysterio?
During the final confrontation in London, Peter manages to see through Mysterio’s illusions. Beck attempts to use drones to kill Peter and his friends, but Peter takes control of E.D.I.T.H. and orders the drones to stop.
Beck is ultimately shot by one of the drones during the confrontation. Peter survives and stops Beck’s plan.
Does Peter end up with MJ?
Yes. After returning to New York, Peter finally tells MJ how he feels about her. The two begin a relationship and Peter takes MJ swinging through the city.
Who reveals Spider-Man’s identity?
J. Jonah Jameson appears on TheDailyBugle.net and broadcasts edited footage created from Mysterio’s final recording. The footage makes it appear as though Spider-Man caused the London attack and killed Mysterio.
Jameson then reveals Spider-Man’s real identity to the public: Peter Parker.
This leaves Peter shocked because his secret identity is no longer secret.
Post-Credits Scenes
Mid-Credits Scene – Peter Parker’s Identity Is Revealed
Peter and MJ are enjoying their time together when a giant screen shows a breaking-news report from J. Jonah Jameson. Mysterio’s manipulated footage frames Spider-Man as the villain and reveals Peter Parker’s identity.
This creates the major cliffhanger that leads directly into Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Post-Credits Scene – Nick Fury and Maria Hill Are Skrulls
The second scene reveals that the Nick Fury and Maria Hill seen throughout the movie were actually Skrulls. Talos was impersonating Fury while Soren was impersonating Hill.
The real Nick Fury is shown aboard a Skrull spacecraft in space. The revelation explains why the Fury seen in the movie behaved differently from the real Fury and establishes a connection to the larger cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
